May 2009

March and April have been busy times at Tarwin Grove. Hollingrove Chantilly and Hollingrove Alisa both managed to get in foal on the same day in March. Hollingrove Chantilly is in foal to PSI stallion Furst Romancier. At his 70 day test he received 9’s for walk, trot and canter! He is by Furst Heinrich out of a very strong mare line also.

Hollingrove Alisa is in foal to Bockmann stallion Rosentanz, from the same stallion station as Fidertanz. He is by Rohdiamant and passed his 30 day test with an outstanding 9.25 awarded for rideability! We were very tempted to put Alisa back in foal to Fidertanz but this cross was one we had already planned. I am sure we will repeat the Fidertanz cross again soon as we could not be happier with the filly she produced.

Our other exciting news is the fantastic result Alisa’s foal had at the recent AWHA gala show in April. Tarwin Grove Floriana (Hollingrove Alisa x Fidertanz) won the younger filly class and was also judged Reserve Champion Foal of the show.

The Champion foal was a lovely Royal Hit filly owned by Lynn Morrison. This was a real thrill as we think we are breeding good horses from our quality mares but it is great when others think so as well.

Our photo shoot had to be delayed due to unforseen circumstances. We hope to do this in May so there are updated photos of the foals and young horses and our lovely imported filly Mareille who is growing into a magnificent mare.

With two more foals on the way we have reluctantly put our Fidertanz fillies on the market, ufortunately we can’t keep them all! Please see our FOR SALE page for details. Photos Mary McBurnie

2009 has started favourably with the birth of two fantastic fillies.Fidertanz has proven to be a great match up with Hollingrove Alisa and Tarwin Grove Wisteria Lane. One that we will look to repeat in the future.

Tarwin Grove Fidermeyer is Wisteria Lane’s first foal. She already shows amazing movement and is a real personality. Tarwin Grove Floriana is Alisa’s most beautiful foal to date and once again the movement can already be admired at her early age. Whether either filly will be for sale will be decided at the end of the breeding season depending on how many mares we rebreed. We don’t want to part with either of them but as we are a small stud and plan to stay that way one or both of these fillies may be available at weaning.

Our imported mare Mareille is growing up and will commence her breeding career next season. At present she is having a few lessons a week with the other two year olds, TG Spitfire and TG Roslau. All are progressing well and should be under saddle in the next few months. They will have a few rides and then be spelled again to mature.

Tarwin Grove Sydney [pic opposite] is now under saddle and his owner Lauren is thrilled with his progress. Lauren has recently been promoted to the A squad for eventing in NSW after a successful year with her lovely horse Kootamootoo. Not only has Sydney found himself a wonderful home he will also have a very talented rider to show him the way. We look forward to following his progress!

Look for more regular updates over the next few months. We are planning a photo shoot with Sandy Morphett at the end of February so we can show off our beautiful horses. In the meantime some snapshots of the foals will have to do!

With the breeding season over with pretty good results all round it is time to start looking forward to new arrivals!

Our own mares are both in foal to Fidertanz. Tarwin Grove Wisteria Lane is due in early December and her mother Hollingrove Alisa is due in late January. We were going to use Rosentanz for Alisa but due to the late timing in the season we opted to go with the proven semen of Fidertanz.

Alisa’s mother- Hollingrove Chandon owned and bred by Bruce and Debbie Williams of Hollingrove Warmblood Stud is also in foal to Fidertanz. Three generations all in foal to the same stallion! We are all excited to see how similar they are.

We had a shocking blow this season losing our Sandro Hit colt at 7 weeks old to snake bite. We have left Santoro on our youngstock page as we were so pleased with him. It always seems to happen to the best. Hollingrove Alisa will definitely be rebred to Sandro Hit at some stage as he really was a superb foal. As a result of this loss Tarwin Grove Spitfire and Tarwin Grove Roslau are to be retained as future riding horses at the stud and are currently off the market.

Hollingrove Chantilly will be returned to the broodmare band when these youngsters are of riding age. We would like to have two of her- one as a broodmare and one as a riding horse! Maybe embryo transfer could be an option. After a year and a half off due to motherhood she returned to the competition arena and had a win, then unfortunately sustained a soft tissue injury so she is currently having some time off. We may even be tempted to breed her again this season as her colt Spitfire has certainly generated a lot of interest.

Tarwin Grove Sydney has been sold to a lovely family in NSW. Lauren, who will ride him is currently on the eventing squad in NSW. He could not have found a better home in every respect.

Our most exciting news has to be the safe arrival of Mareille, our Samarant/Florestan/Mon Amour filly from Germany. She has certainly been worth the wait exceeding all our expectations. She is a perfect example of modern dressage breeding having magnificent athletic movement, great conformation and a bright cooperative temperament.

We feel very lucky to have her and excited about breeding with her down the track. Photos will follow shortly.
