Warmblood Stud

October 2011

After a long and very wet winter, spring seems to have finally arrived. After months of battling mud, rain and wind the change of season couldn’t have come soon enough!

The breeding and foaling season is already well underway. Congratulations to the happy owners of mares bred at Tarwin Grove last season. We always appreciate hearing about the foals that were once represented by a little black circle on the ultrasound machine.

Congratulations to Jane Salter on her purchase of Tarwin Grove Spitfire known as Stolle at home. As Stolle had been taken off the market this was an unexpected parting but he and Jane seemed to be a perfect match. Jane has already taken him out to some competitions with some very good results. He is now to be known as Tarwin Grove Stolle in the competition arena. We look forward to watching their progress together.

We only have Mareille our imported mare to foal this season. We are hoping for a foal as good as her first in TG Flintoff. We repeated the breeding back to Furst Love as TG Flintoff is pretty special.

TG Flintoff (Fred) and TG Deutschmark (Bertie) have been weaned and are looking great. They are now old hands at rugging, hoof trimming and all the other basics.

We have found that our policy of handling the foals from a young age, although time consuming pays off in the long run both for the horse and the handler. The horses just seem to take every new step in their stride this way. It is the main reason for keeping our foal numbers small . The owners of horse started here certainly appreciate this extra effort we make which makes it all worthwhile.

Our Fidertanz fillies TG Floriana and TG Fidermeyer are nearly 3 years old now and have started baby lessons to begin possible careers under saddle. We may breed with them this season but no firm decisions have been made as yet. They are both impressive young ladies and Fidertanz will definitely feature in our future breeding, probably with TG Raffaella (Rosentanz/ Aachimedes/Donnerheist), our rather large 2 year old. Many decisions to be made!

Visitors are always welcome at Tarwin Grove so if a Victorian trip is on your agenda we would love to show you our beautiful horses.

Jan 2011

2011 has started favourably at Tarwin Grove with the safe arrival of two sensational colts.

Our imported mare Mareille (Samarant/Florestan) presented us with a wonderful colt by Furst Love- Tarwin Grove Flintoff. Even at his young age we can see what a quality horse he will be. This has prompted us to repeat this cross and Mareille has kindly obliged by already being back in foal!

On the 16th of January Hollingrove Chantilly produced a very striking colt by DeNiro- Tarwin Grove Deutschmark. He is a real head turner in every respect-type, colour and movement.  Another cross we plan to repeat at some stage as a DeNiro filly of this calibre would be a welcome addition to the breeding program.

Both colts will be available for sale at weaning. Please see our sale page for further details.

A big congratulations to Lauren Balcomb and Tarwin Grove Sydney for their win in the Australian Young Event Horse 5 Year Old Class at the Sydney International Three Day Event in August 2010. We hope 2011 continues to bring them success. [photo The Horse Magazine]

Congratulations also to Carol Coghlan, owner of Tarwin Grove Wisteria Lane. Wisteria Lane produced a magnificent filly by Furst Romancier. Carol is thrilled with her.

Our two 4 year olds Tarwin Grove Roslau and Tarwin Grove Spitfire are progressing well with their training and will start their competition careers in 2011.

After breaking in and riding both horses Catherine couldn’t choose between the two and has decided to keep both. With the vet work, the stud and managing the farm this should keep her busy!
